Editorial standards

How the firm writes, sources and maintains the guides on this website.

Primary sources first

Our guides rest on the instruments themselves: the Act, regulation, circular, notification or form. Where a guide lists its sources, they are the official texts or the issuing authority's own pages. Where we rely on a secondary source, we say so.

Status words

We distinguish a proposal or consultation from a published instrument, and a published instrument from one in force. An announcement is not law until the instrument that gives it effect is issued.

Figures

Capital amounts, fees, tax rates and timelines come from the instrument that sets them. Illustrative figures in our calculators are labelled as indicative.

Review

An advocate of the firm reviews a guide before it is published, and again when an instrument it relies on changes.

Languages

English is the master text. Russian versions are translated from it and reviewed by a Russian-speaking reviewer; if the two differ, the English text prevails.

Corrections

If you find an error, write to [email protected]. We correct errors promptly and record material corrections in the corrections log.
